A COLOURFUL production of the Little Shop of Horrors - complete the a giant man-eating plant - will be staged by dozens of young people this week.
The production by Starset Theatre - formerly the Durham Stage School - will open at the Assembly Rooms Theatre, in Durham’s North Bailey, at 7.30pm on Thursday.
Starset Theatre director Elissa Hudson said: "There are about 40 young people taking part. They have been working very hard to ensure the show is a success."
The musical tells the story of a geeky florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and develops an insatiable appetite.
Mrs Hudson said: "The plant grows throughout the show - and we have had four versions specially made for the production to show it getting bigger.
"The plant grows up to 8ft tall."
Mrs Hudson added: "Not many people know about the Assembly Rooms Theatre which has undergone extensive refurbishment.
"This will also be a rare chance for people to be able to visit the theatre."
Little Shop of Horrors will be staged at 7.30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a 2.30pm matinee on Saturday. Tickets are £10, £8 (conc) and £8 each in groups of 10 or more.
