POLICE are trying to trace a motorist who could have information about a head on crash in County Durham earlier this week.
Officers want to speak to the driver of a red Vauxhall Astra which may have been linked to an accident on the A177 at around 8am on Wednesday.
Two cars, a silver Honda Jazz and a burgundy Vauxhall Vectra, suffered extensive damaged when they collided between the Fishburn and Bishop Middleham cross road and the Hare and Hounds pub.
Both drivers were badly shaken but not seriously hurt.
Police believe the Astra may have been overtaking at the time of the crash. It did not stop but left the scene at high speed, however the driver may have been unaware that an accident had occurred.
Based on witness accounts the Astra is believed to be a MK3, in good condition, may be a GSI model and is thought to have been either N, M or R plate.
The driver was described as a man in his late 20s or early 30s with short dark hair.
Drivers are keen for the driver to come forward or for anyone who may know who it was to get in touch.
Anyone with information should call 0345-60-60-365 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111 for PC Nicholas Prest or PC Craig Gaines.
