SAFETY at a County Durham primary school is to be boosted by a new school crossing patrol.

Durham County Council is to provide the patrol outside Easington C of E Primary School after surveying the area.

Now it is looking to recruit someone who is reliable, has good road sense, is patient, experienced in dealing with children.

Councillor Bob Young, the county council’s cabinet member for environment, said: "School crossing patrols do a grand job in seeing children – and adults – safely across busy roads.

"We are looking for someone who is fit, reliable, available morning and afternoon, can work in all kinds of weather and has the confidence to deal with pedestrians and traffic.

"It’s a demanding job and it takes a special person to fit the bill."

He added: "Road safety is important to us and we have put a great deal of effort into reducing road casualties.

"School crossing patrols play a very important role in keeping children and adults safe."

Anyone interested in applying for the crossing patrol job should contact the county council’s road safety team on 0191-383 6553 or 6552.
