SEASIDE town Scarborough has been named Europe’s most enterprising place at a prestigious awards ceremony.
The town was awarded the grand jury prize at the European Enterprise Awards, which recognise towns and cities across the continent that have transformed the social and economic fortunes of their residents.
Scarborough was the sole UK representative at the awards in Prague and the win comes after it was named the most enterprising town in Britain at the Enterprising Britain awards last year.
More than 350 entries were received for the European awards and Scarborough beat off 12 other finalists to be receive the top prize.
Nick Taylor, Urban Renaissance Manager at Scarborough Borough Council said: "It is a culmination of all the hard work that has been done over the past few years in transforming the town and is a real testament to the splendid efforts of a whole range of committed and passionate people from across the community.
"Scarborough has earned its place on the European map and we are now looking forward to capitalising on this prestigious accolade."
