A CITY centre car and coach park is to close for road resurfacing.
Durham County Council is to resurface Freeman’s Place, in Durham, on Wednesday, May 27. Work on kerbs and drainage will begin this week and continue until Friday, May 22.
The Sands car park will be closed to coaches between May 18 and 22. Alternative coach parking will be available at Belmont Park and Ride.
The car park and Freeman’s Place from the Premier Inn junction to Providence Row will be closed to traffic on Wednesday, May 27.
Traffic lights will operate to allow vehicles access to Walkergate multi-storey car park. Residents of Freeman’s Place will use the car park to get to and from their homes for the day.
Jeff Stephenson, the council’s area maintenance engineer, said: "Now that building on Freeman’s Quay leisure centre, Premier Inn and Walkergate apartments is complete, we can resurface the road.
"While we aim to keep disruption to a minimum, we will need to close the road for a day to do the work.
"The Sands car park is the main waiting area for coaches and we have alerted the tourist information centre and put signs on the motorway advising them not to use the Sands car park."
