WORK is continuing to ensure shows booked in Middlesbrough Theatre can be rescheduled or staged at other venues.
The move follows the temporary closure after a fault was identified in the fire curtain.
The problem was found during a safety check at the Theatre and it has now been decided that the curtain must be replaced. It is hoped this can be done before the end of May.
In the meantime a number of shows have been relocated - Keep it Cash is now on at the Town Hall, Vin Garbutt and Fur Coat and Magic Knickers are being held at the Hexagon Theatre.
Shake Ripple and Roll (Topline Community Arts and Stars Performing Arts) will go ahead but options are still being discussed with the company as to possible new dates.
Unfortunately Redcar Operatic Societys production of The King and I, scheduled for May 18 to 23, has been cancelled despite concerted efforts to find an alternative date or venue.
Attempts to secure a new date at Middlesbrough Theatre in the first week of August or to move the show to Billingham Forum - with administrative, financial and technical support - have been unsuccessful.
Juliet Farrar, Middlesbrough Councils Head of Culture and Tourism, said: "We have explored the available alternatives in detail with Redcar Operatic Society, but unfortunately they have found it is not feasible to take up either option."
