THREE youths were behind bars last night after they were convicted of the manslaughter of a 93-year-old woman.
Yuen Har Ho died in hospital after a fire at her flat in Newby Crescent, Jennyfields, Harrogate, last year.
At Leeds Crown Court yesterday Jordan Lee, 14, of Harehills, Leeds, and Ryan Wilson, 14, of Stepney Road, Scarborough, received two-year detention training orders.
The court also sentenced Charles Francis, 17, of Jennyfields, Harrogate, to 26 months in a young offenders’ institution.
All three had pleaded guilty to the charge.
Scott Hampson, 18, from Leeds, was found not guilty of manslaughter in April following a trial in Leeds Crown Court.
Mrs Ho was rescued by firefighters after her flat had filled with smoke when a bin was pushed against the front door and set alight with fireworks in early November.
She died in hospital on December 20, having been in intensive care since the incident.
Mrs Ho’s children David, 54, and Wai Hung Burrage, 51, said: “Yuen Har was a cherished mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was at the very heart of our family.
“She had so much life to live and this was proven by her strength and resolve in holding on for so long following this tragic event, despite the injuries she had suffered.”
