A WARNING has being sent to troublemakers who maliciously break fire alarms after a teen was fined £353.96 for the offence.
The 17-year-old smashed the glass on the alarm at the YMCA Training Centre, on Elder Road, in Northallerton, on January 20.
North Yorkshire Fire Service attended the scene on a wasted call-out and the teenager was later arrested.
The teen was fined £351.46 to pay for the cost of the call-out and also told to pay £2.50 damages for the cost of the alarm by Northallerton Youth Court.
Watch Manager Steven Harris, of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "A fire appliance can not be in two places at the same time.
"This type of call wastes valuable resources and put other people's lives at risk."
PC Andy Rogers, of Northallerton Response Team, said: "Obviously this result is very pleasing as it sends out a clear message that falsely setting off fire alarms is not acceptable."
