Boro's 3-1 defeat by Newcastle was hard to bear for a number of reasons.
Firstly, I was brought up in Middlesbrough so I'm sad to see Boro apparently doomed to relegation.
I'm also disappointed for Gareth Southgate who, in a world of prima donnas, is a thoroughly decent bloke and a great supporter of our Local Heroes Awards, honouring the stars of grass roots sport.
But it was also frustrating from a newspaper point of view. With a few minutes to go, the score was 2-1 to Newcastle and we were busy working on the front page.
We had a picture readu of Alan Shearer celebrating, and one of Gareth Southgate looking despondent.
We needed a headline to sum up the story. Sub-editor Alen McFadzean came up with the line from the Magpies rhyme: "One for sorrow, two for joy."
Perfect!
The page was ready to go - and then Peter Lovenkrands scored a third and spoiled it all.
