A SERVICE celebrating faiths from around the world marked the opening of an exhibition yesterday.
Members of the community from Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Sikh faiths gave a reading from their religious texts at the launch of Sacred on Location, at Sunderland library and arts centre. The Bishop of Durham, the Right Reverend Tom Wright, closed the service.
Sacred on Location, one of the British Library’s most popular exhibitions, will be in Sunderland for four weeks.
It explores links between Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
Sunderland City Council and faith groups across the region have organised workshops with the aim of bringing communities together to contemplate faith.
Sacred on Location will be on display during normal opening hours on the ground floor of the city library and arts centre, in Fawcett Street.
All activities are free of charge.
For details of the workshops, call 0191-561-8407.
