A SUPERMARKET in north Durham is asking customers to nominate a charity it can support for a year.
Sainsbury’s in Durham wants people to suggest organisations to be the store’s official charity partner.
The selected charity will benefit by working with staff to organise fundraising events and charity collections.
People can nominate a local charity until May 26 by completing a nomination form and submitting it into the ‘Local Charity of the Year’ voting box found at the front of store.
Store Manager Gerry Storey said, "By supporting a local charity we can give something back to the community by helping with fundraising and volunteering. "Clearly it’s important that we find a charity that is close to the hearts and minds of our customers and colleagues so I would encourage everyone to come into store and vote."
Sainsbury’s will draw up a short list from all nominations submitted.
Representatives from the three short listed charities will be asked to visit the store to talk to colleagues about what they do and how the Sainsbury’s team could support them.
The winner will be announced to customers in June.
