A CAMPAIGN to wipe out graffiti, dispose of dog mess and banish flytipping in an east Durham village is being held this week.
The Wheatley Hill Community Clean-up involves Durham County Council staff joining forces with residents to tackle a wide range of environmental problems.
The five-day event, which has been organised through the authority’s Pride in Easington campaign, will run until Friday.
Residents and traders will be encouraged to get involved in a range of activities with the aim of inspiring them to take more pride in their local area.
Clare Hubbard, Pride in Easington officer, said: "Over the coming week we’ll be focusing all our efforts on making Wheatley Hill a better place to live and work.
"However, the success of the clean-up also depends on local people playing their part and then continuing their efforts once the campaign is over.
"It only takes a little effort to make a difference so it’s incredibly easy for people to get involved."
The campaign was officially launched at Wheatley Hill Primary School yesterday, when pupils will got the chance to meet Tidy Ted, the Pride in Easington mascot.
