JENNIFER Anne’s School of Dance were performing near the Pease Monument today in Darlington. Collecting quite a crowd, they showcased an array of lyrical, modern, street and contemporary dance styles.
Jennifer said: “We have over 50 dancers ranging from two and a half to 72 years old in the school. They love it. We cover exams from prep up to advanced, this gives them teaching qualifications.” Boys and girls can learn a wide variety of dance techniques, from ballet to acrobatics, tap to break-dancing Collecting funds for their own equipment such as lights, and costumes for the pupils; the schools puts on a show twice a year. Mary Phillips and Claire Mulholland, are adult sisters both sharing a skill for costume design, making the dancers twirling red skirts on this occasion.
At 19 Jennifer Anne started her own dance school, having treaded the boards at the Kathleen Davis Stage School, for two years. She was with M.T.Laundy for 13 years before that. Now 25, her classes are running all week. On a Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the school is open from 4.00pm to 8.00pm.
The energetic troupe will next be entertaining the public by dancing on the pavement between Finlay’s and ASDA on the 23rd of May. They will be giving the display between 10.00am and 4.00pm. Contact Miss Jennifer on 07791325908 for further details.
