A KURLING club scored a double victory in the sport’s world championship.
The Wear Valley New Age Kurling Club won the singles and doubles events at the New Age Kurling World Championship, in Liverpool.
Daniel Bainbridge, 21, won the singles event, followed by Ken Thomas in second place, Bob Jackson in third and Allan Gregson in fourth.
Mr Jackson and Mr Gregson won gold in the doubles event.
Eight Wear Valley players aged from 20 to their late- 50s attended the event, competing against 15 other UK teams.
They received £4,000 from County Durham Foundation to take part.
Club chairman Steven Bainbridge said: “I knew we would win something, but did not expect that amount of success. I am so pleased.”
The club meets weekly in Leeholme, near Bishop Auckland. Some of the members are blind.
