A TEENAGE motorist transferred to Leicestershire for specialist treatment after an accident on the A1 is well enough to return to the region.
The 18-year-old driver was seriously injured when his car veered off the motorway near Bradbury, in County Durham, last Monday.
He suffered serious chest and internal injuries and was initially taken by the air ambulance to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
The driver, who is from York, later had to be transferred to a specialist hospital in Leicestershire.
He has now been transferred back to Middlesbrough where he continues to recover in the intensive care unit.
Accident investigators renewed their appeal for witnesses to the incident which happened at about 2.20pm on Monday, April 27.
The teenager's blue Citroen Saxo was travelling on the northbound carriageway of the A1, around a mile north of junction 59, when it careered off the road and landed in a field.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Durham police's accident investigation unit on 0191-375-2159.
