FINE weather and high visitor numbers helped volunteers from a heritage railway mark the completion of a project to restore a Victorian signal box.
More than 60 volunteers from the Wensleydale Railway marked the opening of the signal box, at Leeming Bar Station, near Bedale, on Saturday.
Jane English, of Northern Rail, cut the tape to open the signal box, which has been restored after a 12-month project.
The project was supported by a Heritage Lottery Grant of £21,500.
The opening drew visitors from as far afield as North Wootton, near Kings Lynn, in Norfolk, where the signal box used to stand.
Visitors over the weekend were able to view the signal box and learn more about it using an information terminal located on the platform.
Former North Wootton scout leader David Smith said "We are really pleased that the signal box has been saved.
"The Wensleydale Railway has done an outstanding job in restoring the old girl.
"The work has been so sensitively done that it looks new, but we can still see the old."
