Willington kids and parents are hopeful that the Youth Cafe (in Clare’s cafe in the high street) will be ready to open its doors by the end of summer.
Local children have already identified a range of activities that they’d like to have available in the cafe. These include a wii-fit, whiteboard (for graffiti), music, t.v., darts and boardgames.
The cafe was scheduled to open after the Easter break, but mandatory requirements (first aid and hygiene training for volunteers, for example) have delayed the opening plans.
In the meantime, a questionnaire is being distributed to children attending Parkside school to determine what else local children would like from the cafe.
Parents involved in the project aim to have the cafe ready for use by the time the dark nights are once again upon us.
Planned opening times are Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m.
The Youth Cafe is part of Aspire Youth Project. If you’d like to get involved or make a donation, contact Willington County Councillor, Becky Brunskill on 07971706756.
