A 21-YEAR-OLD accused of assaulting a man who later died was remanded into custody when he appeared in court today.
Liam Keith Hall, of Dene Terrace, Chilton, County Durham, is accused of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent.
It is alleged that Mr Hall assaulted Neil Paul Jones at a house in West Chilton Terrace, Chilton, late on Thursday night.
Paramedics were called to the scene and Mr Jones was taken to Bishop Auckland General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12.45am on Friday.
A post mortem examination has yet to determine the cause of his death.
The married father-of-one is originally from the Chilton area and had returned to the region after a period living in Bedfordshire, following the breakdown of a relationship.
Magistrates sitting at Newton Aycliffe remanded Mr Hall in custody until Friday when he will appear at Teesside Crown Court.
