I've just received a request for permission for two stories from The Northern Echo to be used in a forthcoming book by Phoenix Nights comedian Dave Spikey.
The book, entitled He Took My Kidney, Then Broke My Heart, is due to be published in October. It is a compilation of amusing news stories from across Britain.
The first Echo story was about Kate Umpleby, the landlady of The Foresters Arms, at Coatham Mundeville, near Darlington, being locked in the cellar by a suspected ghost.
The second was about a safety campaign targeting people who drive their electric wheelchairs too fast around Darlington town centre.
On the basis that there's no such thing as bad publicity, I've given my consent.
Roll on October...
