MEMBERS of a volunteer rescue team will receive a cash boost thanks to an annual walking challenge.

The Northumbria Group of the Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA) has organised the Durham Dales challenge in June.

The event, which sees walkers or runners complete a course of either 16 or 30 miles in 12 hours, will raise money for Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team.

Chris McDowell, Northumbria LDWA group Secretary and organiser said: "Just like the Northumbria LDWA, the Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team is an organisation run completely by volunteers.

"The Search Team is always on standby throughout the event to offer safety cover. "Over previous years they have proved to be an invaluable source of support."

"By way of thanks our organisation made the decision to donate 50p from every entry received to the Teesdale and Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue Team."

Both walks will be held on June 27 and will start and finish at Wolsingham School, in Weardale.
