THIEVES have made off with two priceless World War Two medals after raiding a family home.
The burglars stole the medals belonging to the late father of one of the owners after breaking into a house on Fieldfare Road, Hartlepool, between 2pm and 4.30pm, on May 1.
The medals belonged to a sergeant in the Royal Artillary. He was also a member of the Durham Light Infantry.
Thieves also made off with two laptop computers, a number of electrical items, jewellery, tools and guitars, before stealing a blue 07 registered Renault Scenic from the driveway.
Detective Constable Louise Sproson, of Cleveland Police, said: "The medals were of significant sentimental value to the owners, who are desperate for their return.
"These items, including a car, were stolen in broad daylight, so it is likely that someone saw the thieves acting suspiciously. I would appeal for anyone who noticed strange behaviour or the stolen vehicle to contact Police as soon as possible."
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Louise Sproson, of Hartlepool CID, on 01642-302126 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555111.
