A POLICE force paid nearly £43,000 less on accidents involving its own cars between October and December 2008 as it did over the same time in 2007.
North Yorkshire Police paid £41,250 out in total over the three months in 2008 a drop of £42,988 on the same period the year before.
The force also had 90 accidents involving its own vehicles between October and December 2008 compared to 157 over the three months in 2007.
Between October and December 2008 the North Yorkshire force paid legal costs to third parties for accidents involving its own vehicles of £6,337.
For the period October to December 2007 the police paid £17,245 in legal costs to third parties for accidents involving its own vehicles.
The rural police force also paid £17,966 in damages to third parties due to accidents compared with £20,094 For the same period in 2007.
The figures are revealed in the North Yorkshire Police Authority’s police professional standards sub-committee agenda to be held on May 8.
