A SEARCH for historic sporting memorabilia has kicked off with an appeal for a missing school badge.
Northallerton College, in North Yorkshire, is celebrating its 100th anniversary on its Grammar School Lane site, and is appealing for former pupils who may have any old sporting mementoes to get in touch.
Director of community development Dr Graham Best said: “We were kindly given a 1966 old grammar school football shirt by one of our former pupils, Dave Gilbank, who attended the school from 1965 to 1968.
“Unfortunately, the shirt has a missing badge and we would really like to trace anyone who may have a similar shirt with a badge or just the badge itself.
“We have no idea what it looks like so would also appreciate any old school sporting photographs from that era that would give us a clue.”
Football coach Stuart Wright said: “Mr Gilbank also told us that the Sixties team was very successful, losing only one match in a full season.
“The college has managed to maintain that reputation as our under-19 squad is currently in the County Cup semi-finals.”
The college is to hold an exhibition tracing its long history in September and will display any memorabilia donated in the school foyer.
“It would be great to relive our sporting glory days,”
said Dr Best. “An exhibition of old photographs and souvenirs would really help to remind us all of our great sporting heritage.”
