IT was a ground-breaking attraction when it first opened and 25 years later it is still going strong.
The Jorvik Viking Centre, in Coppergate, York, opened in 1984 and since then millions have ridden its “time-cars” through the city’s Dark Ages past.
To mark its silver anniversary the centre celebrated with a carnivalstyle street party yesterday.
Stilt-walkers, unicyclists and Viking warriors entertained the crowds and there were also stories, games and a huge celebratory cake.
All those who visited the centre yesterday were treated to a commemorative 25th anniversary coin to mark the occasion.
