A 76-YEAR-old woman had to be rescued after she plummeted over the edge of a cliff in her mobility scooter.
The woman had been travelling along the South Bay in Scarborough when the accident happened.
Her fall was broken by bushes.
She was caught 6ft down at the bottom of a steep slope, just above a vertical drop.
It took an hour to free her from the precarious position, with an ambulance crew, police and three coastguard units on hand.
A spokesperson for Humber Coastguard said: "We were alerted by the ambulance service at 1.40pm today and were told a lady had been travelling down a cliff path, which is quite winding, in her mobility scooter.
"She negotiated a bend but the scooter tipped over and she fell 6ft down the cliff.
"Her fall was fortunately broken by bushes, but the scooter landed on top of her."
Despite her fall, the elderly woman sustained just cuts and bruises and was not seriously injured.
The Humber Coastguard spokesperson said: "It must have been a very stressful experience for the lady, but to the best of our knowledge she is well and being fully assessed by paramedics."
