In the early hours of the morning we boarded the Hercules and strapped ourselves into the seats that lined its hull, it’s a monster of a plane. With it being so noisy we had to wear ear protection as well as our armour and helmets.
We roared off into the night sky heading for Camp Bastion in Helmond province and then off up to Kabul. On landing the back ramp went down to release a very cold draft of air through. Delta platoon had finally arrived.
We were met by the transport teams and our force protection counterparts that we were to take over, the 4th Battalion of The Yorkshire Regiment. We hurtled through the quiet dark streets of Kabul; I could not see much out of the tinted windows and arrived safely at our base, HQ ISAF. We found our rooms and jumped into our bunks within no time we were fast asleep.
