TRAIN buffs are being offered the chance to travel on Tornado along the scenic North York Moors Railway.
The historic £3m Tornado, the first express steam loco to be built in 50 years, is to run on the line as part of the Spring Steam Gala.
The North York Moors Railway run gala takes place from May 1-4 and then again from May 8-10 with Tornado running on each day.
Duncan Ross, the administration director of The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, the Darlington-based team behind Tornado, felt it would prove popular.
He said: "Those people who gave us regular donations to help build Tornado get to ride the train on Saturday, May 2.
"Then on the other days the general public can ride Tornado along the North York Moors Railway.
"The North York Moors Railway is one of the finest preserved railways in the country and it is one of the most scenic and we are pleased Tornado is there."
Mr Ross denied rumours that there was a technical problem with Tornado and said the train would be running as planned.
Details on the times Tornado is to run and ticket prices can be found by calling 01751-472508 or by visiting nymr.co.uk/news/spring-steam-gala.
