A TOWN centre sculpture has been restored after residents complained it was started to fall to pieces.
The Beacon of Europe in was unveiled by former MEP Stephen Hughes in 1993 to commemorate the 20th anniversary the UK joining the European Economic Community.
Ferryhill Town Council secured a £5,000 grant from Lafarge Aggregates to have the monument to repaired.
The work has now been completed by Durham Stonemasons.
Council leader Pat McCourt said: "I am delighted that our staff were able to find and successfully apply for a grant to undertake this work.
"This brings the total amount of grants secured by the town council staff to over £1,200,000 this year, which is outstanding for such a small organisation and is the equivalent saving of 200 percent of our council tax."
