MUSICIANS are being invited to showcase their talents at east Durham’s annual music festival.

This year’s event takes place from Saturday, October 3 until Sunday November 22 and anyone wishing to perform or organise an event is being urged to sign up now.

Bands and artists who take part in the festival will be featured in the official programme, receive free posters and tickets for their events, and have help in publicising it.

In addition to performances by amateur and professional musicians, the festival includes workshops where local people can try their hand at making music with the help of experts.

Colin Robson, Arts Development Officer at Durham County Council, said: "Although the council organises some of the events, the music festival provides a unique opportunity for local people to join with us to create a wonderful mix of entertainment to suit all tastes.

"We are hoping people will come forward with ideas that can take place in venues across east Durham and at various times throughout the day and evening.

"Although we expect some of the musicians and performers to be professionals we also hope that amateurs and beginners will also take part, and would especially welcome events designed to improve or introduce people to new skills."

Anyone arranging events featuring performances by professional bands or solo artists may be eligible to a Guarantee Against Loss and help with applying for grants, licences and publicity.

Applications for events or performances can be obtained from the Arts Development Unit on 0191- 527 0501 ext 4781 or e-mail colin.robson@durham.gov.uk.
