YOUNG footballers will take to the field alongside some of England’s greatest players at a charity match next month.
The under-eights teams will take part in a tournament at Darlington Football Club, on the day Paul Gascoigne and Peter Beardsley play in a fundraiser for the club.
The benefit match will take place at The Northern Echo Darlington Arena on Sunday, May 3, to raise funds for the Quakers, who are in administration.
Club spokesman Keith Stonehouse said: “We will be holding a mini-tournament before kick-off featuring about 50 kids.
“We have four teams coming down to take part, and it will give them a chance to play in a packed stadium with some great players.
“It will make it a day to remember for them.”
Players from Darlington’s 1999/2000 play-off team will be reunited to take on the celebrity team, featuring Darlington icon Marco Gabbiadini, Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate and former Sunderland captain Kevin Ball.
Tickets are £10 for adults, and £5 for children, students and pensioners, on 01325-387000 or at the gate.
