POLICE are warning people to be wary of suspicious telephone callers asking for their bank details.
Although no crimes are believed to have been committed on Wednesday (APRIL 22) three Sedgefield villagers received such calls. The caller maintained that each of the three fallen victim of a £200 banking fraud in order to try and obtain their account number.
One individual was also told to attend their local bank.
Police enquiries revealed that the call was bogus and so far no one is thought to have parted with their bank details.
PC John Seymour, from the Sedgefield Neighbourhood Police Team, said: "Members of the public should be vigilant to any of these types of phone calls, and on no account reveal any personal details.
"Also be aware of how you dispose of any paperwork containing bank or credit card details, if in any doubt confirm with your bank regarding the call first and also contact the police."
