A TEENAGER is to walk Hadrian’s Wall in memory of her father.
Nineteen-year-old Amie Barnes’ father Peter was just 40 when he died after suffering a heart attack caused by an undiagnosed aggressive heart disease.
Miss Barnes and six relatives will trek ten miles along Hadrian’s Wall on Sunday to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.
They will be among about 250 people taking part in the event, between Walltown Crags and Housesteads.
Miss Barnes, who is from Durham, said: "We thought the event would be a really positive way for our family to deal with our grief on dad’s anniversary.
"I think it is important that we can unite with other people that have been affected by heart disease and this event provides that opportunity and community support.
"The British Heart Foundation is obviously a cause that is close to our hearts not only because dad passed away from heart disease but because we know the condition is hereditary.
"I hope the event raises awareness in our community of the need for people to support charities like the BHF to fund research into heart disease and to support those who suffer from it."
