A MOTHER-OF-TWO has died after being stabbed in a daylight attack.
Julie Mordue, believed to be in her 30s, was stabbed to death at a house in Vicars Croft, Northallerton, North Yorkshire, at about 2.45pm, on Tuesday.
She was rushed to the town’s Friarage Hospital, but was later declared dead.
A 40-year-old man, understood to be Miss Mordue’s boyfriend, Nigel Mclean, was arrested by police in connection with the stabbing.
People living in the quiet cul-de-sac, just outside the town centre, laid flowers outside the house.
Neighbour Zega Loraine said last night: “She was a really nice person and the kids were lovely and I feel sorry for her and her kids.
“I got home about 4.30pm and I saw the police and I did not know what was going on, but I knew it had to be bad.
“I found out that she had been stabbed and was in a critical condition in hospital and then later I found out that she had died. It’s really awful and everyone round here is really upset and shocked by it.”
Danielle Goodwin, who lives nearby, said: “It is a really big shock. We used to speak to them and you don’t think something like this is going to happen.
“They’d been together a few years.”
Police teams cordoned off the house, near the Hambleton Forum, and police forensics experts have been examining the scene.
A Northallerton police spokesman said: “North Yorkshire Police were called to Vicars Croft after a report that a woman had been stabbed.
“The woman was taken by ambulance to the Friarage Hospital, in Northallerton, where she was pronounced dead.
“A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, but no charges have been brought.”
Anyone who can help police with their inquiry is asked to call Northallerton CID on 0845-60-60-24-7, or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800- 555-111.
