A HOUSING estate in Hartlepool is the latest to benefit from a successful clean-up operation.

The Dyke House estate has been subject of Operation Cleansweep, which is a week-long programme designed to improve an area.

Work inculded painting empty properties and graffiti removal, home fire safety checks by Cleveland Fire Brigade and Smartwater property protection being offered to residents.

Hartlepool Borough Council, Housing Hartlepool, Cleveland Fire Brigade and Cleveland Police are working under the banner of the Safer Hartlepool Partnership.

Garry Jones, the council’s neighbourhood co-ordinator for the north of the town, said: "Once again, Operation Cleansweep is targeting the areas that need the most intervention, and partner agencies are working together against set priorities and targets.

"The fact that the work that is being carried out is based on intelligence means we are taking appropriate action with support from local communities."
