PARENTS are being urged to use re-useable real nappies to help save money and provide a boost to the environment.
The York and North Yorkshire Waste Partnership is backing a national campaign to reduce nappy waste as part of Real Nappy Week from April 27.
The waste partnership claims eight million nappies are thrown away each day in the UK and that they take a long time to decompose.
By using washable nappies several times the partnership claims families can save up to £500 a year.
Richard Flinton, North Yorkshire County Council’s corporate director for business and environmental services said: "Switching from disposable to real nappies is one way that families can make a significant difference to reducing the amount of waste they put out for collection and to savings for their family budgets."
