DETECTIVES are investigating a fire at a waste recycling plant. Police were alerted by the Fire Brigade at 9.35pm on Tuesday night, to a blaze on the Sandgate Industrial Estate on Mainsforth Terrace, Hartlepool.
This is the second fire at waste recycling plants in the town over the last week.
Although no formal link between the two fires has been established, police have not ruled it out and are treating both fires as suspicious.
Officers will liaise with the owners of the premises today.
A blaze at Young's Recycling site, on Graythorp Industrial Estate, near Hartlepool, is still causing problems for firefighters a week after it started.
The heat is still too intense for fire investigators to get inside the badly damaged building.
And residents living in the vicinity have been warned to keep their doors and windows closed as smoke continues to billow out of site.
Anyone with information on either fire can contact Hartlepool CID on 01642-302126 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
