AN ENERGY company hopes to offer employment to redundant Nissan workers.

More than 30 employers and training organisations have registered for a jobs fair for workers at the Sunderland car plant who have lost their jobs at Sunderland Football Club's Stadium of Light between 12 noon and 6pm on Thursday, April 23.

Companies already registered for Thursday's event includes EDF Energy, BAE Systems and Allied Healthcare.

And Diane Shires, HR manager from EDF Energy, said: "We have many vacancies on offer and I am confident that we will fill these at the event."

Employment experts from Jobcentre Plus and Sunderland City Council's Job Linkage and Employer Link teams will head up support at the event, detailing the package of public sector help to workers in attendance, who will also be able to view job opportunities on display by North East companies.

The event follows on from a jobs fair held at the Stadium of Light in February when 500 employees from Nissan and its wider supply chain attended to access vacancies posted by 25 businesses.

Alan Clarke, One North East Chief Executive and Chairman of the Nissan Response Group, said: "This jobs fairs are part of a wider package of support the response group has brought to Nissan employees to help them at a time of uncertainty and worry.

"Our aim is to bring job opportunities directly to workers, to give them the best possible chance of finding suitable new employment in the region. The skills and dedication of Nissan staff make them highly appealing to employers across a wide range of sectors."
