VOLUNTEERS from four neighbouring communities joined forces to give their neighbourhoods a spring clean.
A joint regeneration partnership enlisted the help of residents of all ages from Trimdon Village, Colliery, Station and Grange to pick up litter and fly tipped rubbish.
In one day, volunteers collected 80 bags of rubbish.
Durham County Council assisted the group by supplying high visibility waistcoats, litter picking sticks, gloves and bags.
The group meets monthly to improve the area and Jimmy Bennett, street scene area manager, said: "Engaging and improving the community is the way forward and encourages more groups within the community to do similar events.
"It was a tremendous effort from everyone involved."
