PEOPLE were given the chance to try the ancient sport of dragon boat racing on Saturday.
In a programme to promote active lifestyles, Durham Amateur Rowing Club hosted the event on the River Wear, where people could put their hands to the paddles, and with a drummer setting the pace.
Club member John Alderson said: “People had a whale of time and were splashing around.
“They were soaking wet by the time they got out, but everyone was laughing.”
Another free session is planned for Saturday, June 27, from noon to 2pm, when Mr Alderson said more boats will be available.
