Fronted by the impressive Alex Vargas, Vagabond soared on stage and opened up with a soulful, bluesy indie sound, unlike anything else around. Mixing powerful pop melodies with soulful rock, Vagabond deliver a refreshing sound that gives you no choice but to get up and move. Debut single Sweat Until The Morning, was definitely a dance floor filler. With the smooth bass line accompanied by Alex’s outstanding voice the crowd were in awe. The whole quintet looked like they were enjoying themselves thoroughly, with the lead singer and guitarists strutting around the stage with confident stage presence. Soft bluesy I Know A Girl, won the crowd over instantly and as the groove kicked in, it became clear that Vagabond are the soulful funk band the world didn’t even know it was waiting for. Since playing their first acoustic show around six months ago, a demanding schedule of studio work and national touring has seen the band develop a desirable live show. Vagabond aren’t like any other typical indie band, they incorporate pop, rock, funk, blues and a few other genres into their music, however soul is the thread that runs through everything they do. It is those clashes that make the band very interesting and unique. They end their terrific set with energetic I’ve Been Wanting You, and the whole crowd is dancing and singing along. From a performance like this I can tell Vagabond are one of 2009’s most exciting prospects.
