FIREFIGHTERS have rescued a dog from falling into a quarry.
Millie the black labrador slid down a bank at Witch Hill Quarry at Silent Bank in Old Cassop, near Durham, at around 7pm on Wednesday.
She became stuck on a ledge eight metres from the edge and her owner feared she would fall in to water 20 metres below.
Firemen used ropes to secure the dog and were able to pull her to safety.
Station manager Chris Hockaday said: "It has chased a rabbit and gone over the side and got stuck.
"It wasn’t quite a sheer drop but it was not able to get back up.
"It would have hurt itself if it had gone off so the owner was over the moon when she was rescued safely."
