SPORTY pupils with a bright future will be getting the star treatment this week.
The children have been identified as being gifted in PE and talented in sports following tests carried by the local school sports co-ordinator from Middlesbrough Council.
The 25 youngsters, all from primary schools which feed into Acklam Grange have been invited to a two-day, multi-skills academy at the University of Teesside today and tomorrow.
They will be introduce them to skills needed to develop into top athletes.
The course will focus on hockey and badminton with coaching from Marton Furness Hockey Club and Thornaby Badminton Club.
This will also introduce the youngsters to the advantages of getting involved with local sporting clubs.
Sports science staff from the University of Teesside will also be on hand to advise the youngsters on goal setting and time management techniques.
Donald Cramb, sports development officer said: “These children have been invited to the Gifted and Talented Programme not only because of their skills in a wide range of activities but also because of their desire to participate and sustain an interest in sports and physical activities.”
