A YOUNG artist has beaten off competition from almost 800 other hopefuls to win a drawing competition.
Connor Stangroom won first prize in the annual Put Mum In The Picture competition run by the Prince Bishops Shopping Centre, in Durham City.
The nine-year-old, from Ushaw Moor, won a new bike for himself, a digital camera for his school, Silver Tree Primary, and a package of prizes including a hair styling session, clothes and makeover for his mother Tracey.
His proud mum said: "I was delighted when I found out Connor’s picture had won the competition.
"The timing is perfect as I am going to a wedding next week and now I can get my hair and make-up done and some new clothes just in time to look lovely for the big day."
The competition was open to children aged eight to 10, from primary schools in the Durham City area.
