RUNNERS and cyclists are preparing for the first ever adventure racing weekend in the Durham Dales.
The iROC racing event - which stands for running, orienteering and cycling - takes place at the former Weardale Cement works at Eastgate, County Durham this Saturday and Sunday.
Around 300 participants are expected, and will camp on the site overnight.
There are six races in total, varying in length from one to four hours long, and three will take place at night.
A prize fund of £2,000 is on offer for the winning team or participant.
Specialist maps of the surrounding countryside have been produced for the orienteering events.
Six mini races for spectators and fun runners are also on offer, with an entry fee of £5, payable on the day.
Running shoe specialist inov8, based in Crook, organised the event with funding from Wear Valley District Council.
A limited number of weekend places, priced at £75, are still available.
To register, contact 01388-744900 or visit www.iroc-race.com. Registration for the main races closes on Friday.
Races will start and finish at the Lafarge site, where there will be a marquee for spectators, car parking facilities and the campsite.
