POLICE were today investigating an alleged attack on Coronation Street star Mikey North which left him with a broken jaw.
The 22-year-old needed emergency surgery following the incident in the early hours of Saturday.
It is understood the trouble started when he was walking home from a club in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, after a night out with his girlfriend and some friends.
The actor, who plays bad boy Gary Windass, joined the soap last year and has already caused a stir with his antics.
The hot-headed character made an impression soon after he arrived - with his family at loggerheads with their new next-door neighbours.
A spokesman for the soap said: "There was an incident at the weekend which resulted in Mikey North sustaining facial injuries.
"He was treated in hospital and the matter is now in the hands of the police."
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "A 19-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the incident. He has been released on bail while police inquiries continue."
The actor's condition is being monitored by Street bosses and scenes he was due to film this week have had to be re-jigged.
