A CHARITY has boosted its £1.5m fundraising appeal to update its facilities to cater for animals near to Thirsk.
The Blue Cross Centre, at Topcliffe, is undergoing upgrade work to its care facilities which in some cases date back to the Second World War.
The centre opened in 1987 and the current rebuild will see a modern kennel block built alongside a dedicated puppy and kitten unit for pregnant animals.
An isolation block for sick animals and a new reception area are also being built.
The scheme has been boosted by an Easter Fair which raised £342.70 towards the costs of the work with around £1.3m raised so far.
The fair was held in Thirsk Town Hall recently and several local businesses like Betty's Tea rooms, of Northallerton, donated raffle prizes.
