A WOMAN has died after the car she was driving crashed into a bus shelter.
The woman, who has not yet been named, was driving a Ford Ka when it collided with a shelter on Tunstall Bank, in Ryhope, Sunderland, at about 2.30am on Tuesday.
A man who was in the front passenger seat was injured and rushed to Sunderland Royal Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
The road was closed for about three hours following the incident.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said the reason why the car had hit the shelter had not yet been established.
