A 28-year-old man suffered severe head injuries after being attacked two men in Yarm Lane, Stockton, at around 2.50am yesterday.
The victim was repeatedly punched and kicked by the unknown males.
One of the men is described as white, aged mid-20s, stocky build, 5ft 11ins and wearing dark clothing.
The other man is described as white, early 20s, 6ft 5ins, stocky build, light coloured hair and wearing a light coloured top.
Witnesses are asked to contact Stockton Police Station on 01642-302226.
