TWO men were taken to hospital after their car landed upside down at the bottom of an embankment.

The incident happened at about 9.45am this morning on the A1032 near the Newport Bridge, Middlesbrough.

Firefighters had to cut the passenger out of the car, which was stuck against some metal railings. He suffered a suspected broken hip and spinal injuries.

The driver suffered only superficial facial injuries and concussion.

Both were taken to James Cook University Hospital by ambulance.

Stockton Fire Station watch manager Davey Veitch said: We were called to a road traffic collision on the A1032, in the direction of Middlesbrough. We found the car face down next to metal railings.

We had to cut one person out who was trapped. The other man was walking wounded.

We believe the drive may have lost control of the vehicle as he was going over a ridge.
