WOMEN and girls who have been victims of abuse or violence were offered advice and support at the weekend.
The Home Office is highlighting work the Government has taken to tackle violence against women.
It includes a review into police powers for dealing with serial offenders.
A Home Office roadshow bus was in Middlesbrough town centre on Saturday offering information.
In Middlesbrough during the past 12 months, there have been 3,724 crimes considered to be domestic violence.
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said: “Violence against women and girls is unacceptable in any form, no matter what the circumstances.”
Inspector Helen Eustace, from Cleveland Police, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for women and girls to get involved in this very emotive debate.”
